Monoethanolamine is used as a gas chromatography stationary phase and solvent. According to
GB2760-96, monoethanolamine is permitted as a processing aid in the food industry. It is primarily
used as a plasticizer, vulcanizing agent, accelerator, and foaming agent in the synthesis of resins
and rubber, as well as an intermediate in the production of pesticides, and dyes.
It also serves as a raw material for synthetic detergents and emulsifiers in cosmetics. In the textile
industry, MEA is used as a dyeing brightener, antistatic agent, mothproofing agent, and cleaning
agent. Additionally, it can be employed as a carbon dioxide absorbent, ink additive, and petroleum
additive. Ethanolamine is widely used as a purification solution for removing acidic components
from various gases, such as natural gas. Piperazine hexahydrate can be prepared by cyclization
and neutralization of monoethanolamine hydrochloride. Chlorination of monoethanolamine
hydrochloride with thionyl chloride, followed by substitution with sodium thiosulfate, yields β-aminoethyl
thiosulfate, which is a dye intermediate used in the production of Polycondensation Turquoise Blue
13G. The reaction of monoethanolamine with carbon disulfide produces mercaptothiazoline, an
intermediate used in the rubber industries.
Ethanolamine, also known as 2-aminoethanol, 2-hydroxyethylamine, or monoethanolamine, is
an intermediate in the preparation of carbamate insecticides such as fenoxycarb. It is also widely
used as a purification solution for extracting acidic components from various gases (e.g., natural
gas). Alkylolamides formed from ethanolamine and fatty acids are effective foam boosters.
Ethanolamine also serves as an intermediate for emulsifiers, used in the textile industry as antistatic
agents, mothproofing agents, and cleaning agents. Piperazine hexahydrate can be prepared by
cyclization and neutralization of ethanolamine hydrochloride, and piperazine in the form of
phosphate or citrate salts can be used as an anthelmintic.
2-Aminoethanol is used to remove acidic gases from natural gas and petroleum gas, and to
manufacture non-ionic detergents, emulsifiers, and other applications. As a solvent, it is used in
organic synthesis and for the removal of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide from gases. As a
gas chromatography stationary phase (maximum operating temperature 50°C, solvent: ether),
it is used for the separation of low-carbon alcohols, pyridine, and its derivatives.
