Formic acid is a fundamental organic chemical raw material widely used in industries such as
pesticides, leather, dyes, and rubber. It can be directly applied in textile processing,tanning,
textile dyeing, and the storage of silage. Additionally, it serves as a metal surface treatment
agent, rubber additive, and industrial solvent. In organic synthesis, it is used to produce various
formate esters, and formamide-based intermediates. Specific applications are categorized as
follows:
Industry: Analgin, Aminopyrine, Aminophylline, Theobromine,Vitamin B1, Metronidazole,
Mebendazole.
Pesticide Industry: Triadimefon, Triazolone, Tricyclazole, Triazole, Triazophos, Paclobutrazol,
Uniconazole, Chlorfenapyr, Dicofol, etc.
Chemical Industry: Calcium formate, Sodium formate, Ammonium formate, Potassium formate,
Barium formate, Dimethylformamide (DMF), Formamide, Rubber antioxidants,Neopentyl glycol,
Epoxidized soybean oil, Epoxidized soybean oil octyl ester,
Pivaloyl, Paint strippers, Phenolic resins, Steel pickling agents, etc.

Production of CO: Chemical equation:
HCOOH → (catalyzed by concentrated H2SO4, heated) → CO + H2O
As a Reducing Agent: Used in the determination of bismuth, aluminum, copper, gold,
indium, iron, lead, manganese,molybdenum, silver, and zinc. Also employed in the detection of
rhenium, and tungsten, as well as in testing aromatic primary and secondary amines.
Other Uses: Determining molecular weight and as a solvent for crystallization. Measuring methoxy
groups. Serving as a fixative in microscopic analysis. Producing formate salts.
Formic acid and its aqueous solutions can dissolve many metals, metal oxides, hydroxides, and
salts. The resulting formates are all water-soluble, making it an effective chemical cleaning agent.
Since formic acid contains no chloride ions, it is suitable for cleaning equipment containing
stainless steel materials.
